STUDENT-athletes who failed to finish their campaigns in the shortened UAAP Season 82 will still have their moment of glory.
The UAAP will hand out honorary medals for all athletes listed in the rosters for the scrapped second-semester tournaments, giving a toast to their participation in the aborted season.
About 1,150 collegiate athletes from all eight member-schools in six sports will be bestowed with the symbolic gesture.
"Kahit di sila nakapaglaro, we'll still recognize them because they're still a part of UAAP Season 82. So we're trying to give them something to commemorate that," outgoing UAAP president Em Fernandez of host Ateneo told Spin.ph.
"It's for all who did not play and weren't able to finish their tournaments. We just want to make them feel na we appreciate all of those months that they trained for the season."
Athletes who will receive those medals will come from volleyball, football, athletics, baseball, softball, and tennis -- sports which were cut short and eventually cancelled following the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Fernandez said that the UAAP felt that it's just right to give them their due honor despite everything that has happened in the past season.
"Parang nakalimutan kasi sila eh," he said. "So we don't want to forget them and for them to know that they're still part of Season 82."
