TIN Tiamzon is glad to deliver for La Salle as the Lady Spikers needed a big win without skipper Desiree Cheng.
The backup outside hitter came up with 10 points in the Lady Spikers’ straight-sets win over the cellar-dwelling University of the East Lady Warriors.
Tiamzon said she knew Cheng is out for the match due to a hurting right shoulder, but the Lady Spikers were unfazed.
“Sabi ko, ‘Ate (Des) ako na bahala rest ka muna, take your time. Basta alam mo na cover kita,’” she said.
Tiamzon added that she is always prepared to start, but Cheng is expected to be back for the match on Saturday with Far Eastern University.
“For the first few games ready naman ako whenever coach wants me to go in the court. I want to contribute,” Tiamzon said.
“Binigyan niya ako ng chance yun din same kay Marrione (Alba) alam ko na malaki ang tiwala ni coach sa amin as second six.”
“Kapag binigyan ka na ng chance ni coach dapat hindi mo na sayangin. Don’t waste it,”
she added.
Rookie setter Alba also got her first start, although in a different position, scoring four points as open spiker in place of May Luna, who played limited minutes with a facial injury.
“For me, hindi naman bago sa akin kasi spiker din ako,” Alba said. “Nire-ready ko lang lagi 'yung sarili ko, kahit anong posisyon 'yung ibigay sa akin ni coach kasi alam ko naman na once pinasok niya ako, malaki 'yung tiwala niya sa akin.”
Tiamzon wasn’t very pleased with the Lady Spikers’ performance, but said it was a good start as they try to regain their groove.
“We just have to go back into the system, ganun lang talaga. Tiwala kay coach, tiwala sa isa’t isa and play as a family,” Tiamzon said. “It’s a process and this season still has a long way to go. Tiyaga lang talaga.”
