UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas defeated National University, 27-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-16, on Saturday to stay in the hunt for a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals the of UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan City.
Graduating skipper Sisi Rondina scired 21 points, all from attacks, as UST finished the eliminations with a 10-4 win-loss record.
La Salle (9-3) can secure the No. 2 spot with a win over No.4 Far Eastern University (8-5) on Sunday.
A loss by the Lady Spikers would give UST a share of second spot and force a payoff for the twice-to-beat advantage.
“High morale kaming papasok ng Final Four. Ang maganda kasi sobrang positive ni coach na kaya namin and yung nga nagreresponse kami sa training pa lang push na kaming lahat walang nagrerelax at lahat sumusunod,” said Rondina, who also had 13 excellent receptions and 10 digs.
Rookie Eya Laure had 13 points, Alina Bicar had 21 excellent sets on top of seven markers, while KC Galdones had seven points. Graduating libero Rica Rivera had 16 digs and 11 excellent receptions.
“Kung ano yung nangyayari sa loob ng laro, every set, yun kami, pag maganda, talagang smooth. Ngayon pag nag-struggle kami, ganun din kami. So yun yung kailangan naming i-polish pa,” UST head coach Kungfu Reyes said.
Ivy Lacsina led NU with 19 points, Princess Robles delivered 14 points and made 15 digs, Audrey Paran scored 10, while senior Roselyn Doria had four blocks and finished with nine markers in her last UAAP match.
NU ended the season with a 4-10 card.
