LA SALLE has now matched its worst start to a UAAP women’s volleyball campaign in almost two decades.
After losing two of its first three matches in Season 87, the Lady Spikers dropped to a lowly standing they last had in 2006 during Season 68.

The green-and-white faithful need not panic, however. If history was to repeat itself all the way to the end, the 1-2 record actually isn't that bad of an omen.

In that Season 68 run, Ramil de Jesus’ eighth year in charge, the then-Green Archers - yes, they weren't called the Lady Spikers back then - lost their first two before winning their next 10.
Ultimately, the green-and-white finished the elimination round with an 11-3 card and figured in a three-way tie with Adamson and Far Eastern University for the league lead.
With an inferior set ratio, the Green Archers slid to the third-seed and lost out on a twice-to-beat advantage.
RDJ's coaching master class
After making quick work of, ironically, University of Santo Tomas come the Final Four, Desiree Hernandez and Chie Saet-led La Salle took on the season host Lady Falcons for the championship.
There, the Green Archers defied the odds and proved how the finish will always outweigh the start, as they won their fourth of now-12 UAAP championships.

Today, though, with a new standard-bearer in National U, as well as the resurgent Golden Tigresses and history-seeking Lady Tamaraws, La Salle has its work well cut out for it if it was to reclaim the crown it lost last year.
As they presently look up at their fellow title contenders from the bottom of the standings, however, the Lady Spikers should know well enough that two losses in the earlygoing won’t define the course of their championship chase.
Still, to do so, RDJ’s wards must wake up and aim higher now.
