ALARMS were about the be raised after La Salle lost a close second set to winless University of the East on Saturday.
After a dominant 25-12 opener for the green-and-white, the Lady Warriors suddenly seemed formidable.
Fortunately for the Lady Spikers, they had a spark on the sidelines just waiting to be plugged in.
Enter senior opposite Jyne Soreño for starter Shevana Laput, and the former scored nine points in the third set before chipping in three more in the next frame to wind up with a total of 10 attacks, a block, and an ace.

With her, the cavalry arrived and La Salle got back to dominating Sets 3 and 4 en route to its first back-to-back wins in UAAP Season 87.
Despite the course-correction, however, Soreño and Co. still saw a 'bad win.'

“Siguro po yung nakita ko sa labas is yung parang nawala po yung connection ng bawat isa. Parang, nandun na sila eh. Pero bakit bumitaw? Nawala yung respeto sa kalaban,” she acknowledged.
She 'ate'
For Soreño, a five-year veteran who knows a thing or two about coming off the bench and contributing, staying on her toes is crucial for her goal of making good on the team’s trust in her.
“Since dati naman, yun naman talaga yung trabaho ko. Pinanindigan ko talaga yung binigay na tiwala sakin,” she added.
And not only was she ready to step up, she was also raring to fulfill her role as the Lady Spikers' elder sister.
“Ang masasabi ko po is ginawa ko lang po yung part ko as an ate. I’m always there for Shev na 'pag ipapasok ako ni coach Ramil [de Jesus], ready na ako sa labas,” she said.
With this surprising extended match, La Salle clearly has a few kinks it needs to polish in the hopes of another fruitful postseason run.
Thankfully, the Lady Spikers' reserves - led by Soreño - are here to answer the call of backup.
