UNIVERSITY of the Philippines veteran Ayel Estrañero is making the most of every opportunity to gear up for the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.
Although they have six months to prepare, the incoming fifth-year UP standout does not want to waste any time.
In fact, Estrañero revealed that the team is engaged in healthy competition to help them bring out their best in every training and game day.
“Everyone has been working on it every day, it’s good for us to really know who's gonna make it to the lineup,” she said.
“It's (healthy competition) been okay for everyone, we should try to reach coach (Godfrey) Okumu's expectations,” she added.
UP is currently at fourth spot in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference, holding a 2-1 win-loss record after defeating NCAA teams University of Perpetual Help and San Sebastian College, and losing to UAAP's University of Santo Tomas.
The Lady Maroons also finished eighth in a 10-team contest in the Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference.
“‘Yung mga kalaban namin doon were club teams na veterans na, it helped so much na nagkaroon ng tapang 'yung mga bata, not just mentally, but seeing 'yung strategy in playing and skills na they have to improve on,” said Estrañero.
“PVL is a different feeling also, it's different strategies kasi you're playing collegiate teams, so it's a different preparation,” she added.
Meanwhile, UP will be up for another tough task when it faces Adamson University on Sunday.
