SISI Rondina is grateful to the University of Santo Tomas community for providing a big lift as she looks to cap her UAAP career with a championship.
UST alumni and other supporters worked to fund the travel and accommodation of Rondina’s parents as the Tigresses play the Ateneo Lady Eagles in the Game Two of their best-of-three women’s volleyball finals.
Rondina, who also plays in commercial leagues, has helped her family buy a house in Compostella, Cebu, but budget constraints meant she was never able to bring her parents to even the most important matches.
With the help of the supporters outside team management, it isn’t only Rondina’s parents Alona and Arnold who will get to watch Wednesday’s match as funds raised were enough to have Sisi’s sisters Christina, Karen and Criselda join them.
“Mapapasabi ka na lang na ‘buti na lang nag-UST kami’ kasi ‘yung support ng community andoon talaga,” said Sisi. “Sobrang sarap ng feeling na ‘yung mga taong tumulong sayo hindi nagdalawang-isip.”
It will be an extra special moment for the Rondina family, who will not only watch Sisi’s game live for the first time but also witness her receive the MVP award.
“Blessed na nag-UST ako and syempre to be part of the UST community. For me, masaya ako kasi first time nilang makapanood dito sa Manila, championship pa,” she said. “Masaya ako syempre kasi ma-a-awardan ako bukas na andoon sila.”
Sisi vowed not to waste all the efforts of their supporters.
“Hindi ko alam kung paano ako magpapasalamat. Syempre I will do my best para sa game namin and syempre para worth it lahat ng efforts nila,” she said.
Meanwhile, UST supporters also arranged flights and accommodation for the parents of Dimdim Pacres from Cebu and Alina Bicar of Samar.
Pacres' family arrived a little later than the Rondina family, while Bicar family arrived early Tuesday.
