UST star Sisi Rondina completes MVP double in UAAP Season 81

GRADUATING University of Santo Tomas star Sisi Rondina received her UAAP women’s volleyball MVP trophy on Wednesday at the MOA Arena.

It was the first indoor MVP title of Rondina’s career after winning the individual honor four times in the league’s beach volleyball event.

The 5-foot-6 outside hitter is the first MVP from UST since Venus Bernal in 12 years, and first since FEU’s Wendy Semana in 2008 to win both the indoor and beach volley MVP titles in the same year.

The 22-year-old Rondina also won the 2nd Best Outside Spiker award.

The Cebuana hitter averaged 18.5 points in the eliminations and was the No. 2 spiker in the league with 33.38 percent success rate and ninth in digging with 3.98 digs per set.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa Panginoon na isa ako sa nabigyan ng ganitong talento. Sa lahat ng bumubuo ng UAAP, maraming maraming salamat po,” said Rondina in her MVP speech.

“Sa eighth man namin sa UST community, para sa inyo pong lahat ng ito. Lalong lalo na po sa pamilya ko,” she added. “UST community, ito lang ang masasabi ko: the best kayo!”

“Hindi ito para sa akin. Para sa atin lahat ‘to!”

UST teammate Eya Laure was also formally named Rookie of the Year.

The 20-year-old rookie was also named 1st Best Outside Spiker as she was the most efficient attacker in the eliminations with 35.90 percent success rate and the second top scorer in the league with 16.43 points per match.

Ateneo’s Kat Tolentino was named Best Opposite Spiker as she led the Lady Eagles all season long, No. 3 in the league in scoring, attacking and blocking with 14.29 points per game, 30.23 percent attack rate and 0.63 block per set.

National University graduating skipper Roselyn Doria was named 1st Best Middle Blocker, while Maddie Madayag earned the 2nd Best Middle Blocker award.

University of the East’s top players won’t end their UAAP careers empty handed as Lai Bendong won the Best Setter award with a league best 6.81 sets per frame, while Kath Arado was named Best Libero, finishing No. 1 in digging and receiving with 6.94 digs per set and 60.82 percent efficiency in receptions.

NU’s rookie Princess Robles won the Best Server award with 0.48 ace per set.
