THERE was no bad blood or any rift between Sherwin Meneses and National University that led to their shock parting of ways.

The 10-time PVL champion coach’s departure from the Lady Bulldogs after a title-winning UAAP Season 87 campaign all boiled down to just one key detail.

Meneses signed a one-year contract with National U back in August last year, SPIN.ph has learned.

That deal has since expired and ran its course.

Even with a UAAP title to his name, the school opted for another fresh start with its fifth head coach in the last eight season in Regine Diego than to renew Meneses.

This was further explained by Meneses’ wife Nerissa in a Facebook post after his coaching exit broke cover.

“Just to set the record straight, he only signed a one-year contract with NU, which has now concluded,” she explained.

“There is no issue or conflict with the NU management. He holds the institution and its leadership in the highest regard.”

In his brief year-long run, the current Creamline coach won NU the 2024 Shakey's Super League Pre-season Championship to make it three straight titles for the Sampaloc-based school.

He went on to lead the likes of Bella Belen, Alyssa Solomon and the rest of the Lady Bulldogs to a 12-2 (win-loss) card in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.

With a five-set win over Far Eastern University in the Final Four and a two-game finals sweep of La Salle, Meneses brought his winning pedigree in the pros to the college ranks by winning his first UAAP women’s volleyball title as head coach.

His sole focus again shifts back to the Cool Smashers in a bid to break the three-tournament title drought of the country’s most successful pro volleyball team that settled for silver and back-to-back bronze medals in a near five-month stretch.
