THE No. 2 spot isn’t a lock just yet for two-time defending champion National U.
Despite holding the inside track, the Lady Bulldogs remain at risk of slipping from the coveted second seed in UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball, with a three-way logjam at 9–5 still very much in play heading into their final elimination round assignment against University of Santo Tomas.

While that No. 2 spot no longer brings with it a twice-to-beat advantage, it will grant a bye to let the third and fourth-seeded squads go at it first.

Meaning, instead of needing to win twice to reach the title series, the two-seed gets a significantly clearer path.
Still, NU’s grip on that edge is anything but secure.
NU: Win and take No. 2
The equation is as straightforward as it gets: beat the Golden Tigresses and grab No. 2.
A victory vs. UST lifts the blue-and-gold to 10–4 and is the only scenario where the Lady Bulldogs avoid any complications.
Anything less, and the door to chaos opens.
NU loss, UST win: Three-way tie, two teams enter playoff for No. 2
A National U loss to UST creates a three-way tie at 9–5, involving the Lady Bulldogs, the Golden Tigresses, and Adamson - a scenario that triggers a deeper layer of league mechanics.
The three teams will first be ranked according to their match points, with UST already locked into No. 4 by virtue of winding up with the least match points in this scenario.
The reigning titlists and the Lady Falcons will then figure in a playoff for the second seed, with the winner earning a bye, while the latter heads to a knockout bout opposite the Golden Tigresses.
