LA SALLE and National U have clinched the first two spots in the next round of UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball.

The race for the last two spots, however, is still on, with Adamson, FEU, and UST remaining in the hunt.

Four crucial matches in the closing stretch of eliminations will dictate how the rest of the picture unfolds, from outright qualification to a possible playoff for the fourth seed.

Here’s a look at how each team can carve out its path to the next round.

ADAMSON (8-5; 25 pts): Win vs. FEU and go in

Adamson has the clearest route.

At 8–5, the Lady Falcons need only to take care of business against FEU in their final elims assignment to finish at 9–5, a mark that guarantees a Final Four berth regardless of other results.

Slip up, though, and things get complicated fast.

A loss to the Lady Tamaraws drops the white-and-blue to 8–6 and opens the door to a logjam where UST could also land in the same standing, dragging Adamson into a playoff situation to secure a spot.

FEU (7-5; 22 pts): No margin for error

FEU’s situation is more delicate, but still straightforward at the top end.

The Lady Tams must sweep their last two games against Adamson and Ateneo to secure a 9–5 finish and outright entry to the Final Four.

Anything less, and the green-and-gold leaves its fate hanging in the balance

A 1–1 split puts FEU at 8–6, where they could get pulled into a tie with Adamson and or UST, forcing a playoff for the last berth. Drop both games, and they crash out at 7–7.

Simply put, the Lady Tamaraws need to win twice to avoid complications, and elimination altogether.

UST (7-5; 21 pts): Win twice or drop to playoff

UST mirrors FEU in terms of control.

The Golden Tigresses can lock in a Final Four berth by beating both the University of the Philippines then NU to climb to 9–5, a total that shuts the door on outright ouster.

A split, however, sends the black-and-gold into dangerous territory.

At 8–6, UST could find itself tied with Adamson and FEU, forcing a playoff just to break into the Final Four.

Lose both, and the Golden Tigresses are out of the race at 7–7.

Playoff scenarios: How ties trigger a knockout for No. 4

There remains a possibility where the playoff race extends beyond elims.

A three-way tie at 8–6 involving Adamson, FEU, and UST happens if FEU beats Adamson, FEU then loses to Ateneo, and UST splits its games against UP and National U.

That combination pulls all three teams into identical records.

Under this setup, the team with the superior 8–6 record based on match points, set ratio, and succeeding tiebreak metrics, if necessary, will get No. 3.

The other two teams then figure in a playoff, having to battle it out in a knockout game to determine who advances.

The same applies to any two-way tie at 8–6 for fourth, which will also be settled through a do-or-die playoff.
