SETTERS are, 99.9-percent of the time, known for orchestrating the offense, delivering precise sets, and running the team’s rhythm.
Rarely do they score the points themselves.
In Adamson’s four-set win against UE, though, Fhei Sagaysay did exactly that, putting up 10 points built on five aces, four attacks, and one block - turning heads with a performance few expected from a playmaker.

“Hindi po talaga siya yung goal ko, na makailang points man yan. Ang akin lang po, hangga't kaya po, basta lang po maka-contribute po sa team namin,” Sagaysay told SPIN.ph.
The last setter to pull off such a scoring spree was now-Alas Pilipinas skipper Jia De Guzman, who tallied 13 points through including seven attacks, four aces, and three blocks in Ateneo's match against Far Eastern University back in Season 80.
As such, the sophomore playmaker’s offensive outburst just put her in rare company.
Even better, Sagaysay’s scoring came at key moments, from aces to timely attacks, giving the Lady Falcons a much-needed boost against the Lady Warriors.
As she put it, “'Pag naka-ace po, parang dagdag confidence na keep going lang po yung nasa team.”
Flexible Falcons
It was much-welcome, too, as Adamson was coming off a tough setback in its previous game against National U.
“Sa team talk po namin, napag-usapan namin na kung ano yung nangyari ng NU game, i-take na lang namin siya as a lesson. Mag-learn kami at sana sa mga upcoming games namin, mag-gain kami ng confidence para magtuloy-tuloy yung program namin,” she explained.
Moving forward, the Lady Falcons can look to their setter's scoring spree as a signal that she can be more than just a setter. She's actually their X-factor in their campaign to return to the Final Four.
“Sabi ni coach [JP Yude], malayo pa yung pupuntahan namin, malayo pa yung season. Ayun, keep going lang po sa training, lalo na yung mga errors namin kasi yun po talaga yung kailangan namin i-work,” she added.
