NATIONAL University team captain Roselyn Doria hopes to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a decent UAAP Season 81 finish despite all the adversities that happened to them.
The Lady Bulldogs have been the most controversial team entering the season after the sudden coaching change last December with Norman Miguel replacing Babes Castillo and the departure a lot of key players.
The latest loss is Risa Sato, woh was declared ineligible due to academic deficiency with just weeks away from the season opener on February 16 against Far Eastern University at the Arena in San Juan City.
Entering the post-Jaja Santigo era and seeing the graduation of Aiko Urdas and Gayle Valdez, NU also lost Jasmine Nabor and Jorelle Singh, who were allegedly removed from the team in the preseason, as well as Roma Doromal also skipping this year.
The pressure is on newly appointed skipper Doria, one of the three remaining senior players with Audrey Paran and Joni Chavez, in leading the team composed of eight rookies — six from four-time UAAP girls’ champion Nazareth School of NU with the late addition of beach volleyball players Antonette Landicho and Kly Orillaneda.
From a role player in her past seasons, Doria admitted it’s hard to carry the responsibility of leadership but his coach Miguel has been telling her to stay strong since this is her final UAAP season.
“Sobrang hirap kasi madami kang responsibilidad diyan,” said Doria, who had a fruitful stint with Cignal playing with Rachel Anne Daquis and Mylene Paat in last year’s Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference.
In her fifth and final playing year for NU, Doria is dreaming big to lead her team in the Final Four and even in the Finals despite all the adversities that happened to her team before the season.
