ANGGE Poyos had to go through an uphill climb in finding her form and confidence back.
The UAAP’s reigning women’s volleyball Rookie of the Year ranked second in scoring (136 points; 19.43 per game) and tenth in digging (1.83 digs per set) at the end of the first round of prelims play.

Team-wise, it resulted to a 5-2 first-round start in Season 87 for last season’s runner-up University of Santo Tomas.

Then came a three-game skid from first round's end against National U to its first two second-round foes Far Eastern University and La Salle which Poyos believes exposed not only the team’s flaws but also her own.
Slowly but surely, the 21-year-old sophomore Boholana winger is starting to gain a firm grasp of her old rookie self again.
“Compared from the past season, for me, medyo ‘di ako satisfied sa nilalaro,” Poyos told SPIN.ph.
“Paunti-unti naman na bumabalik yung confidence ko sa sarili ko at yung tiwala na binibigay ng mga coaches sa’kin, yun talaga yung pinapanindigan ko.”

Slow and steady wins the race
In UST's first four Round 2 assignments split into two wins and two losses, Poyos normed 17.25 points capped by a 27-point outburst in their five-set fightback against Adamson.
And with a three-game win drought now replaced by a string of back-to-back victories, she and the rest of the Golden Tigresses are armed with belief that they can take care of last year's unfinished business with a return trip to the title series.

“Ito na yun. Bumabalik na kami at nagkaroon na ulit ng confidence in these last games,” Poyos said.
“Malaki na ulit yung kumpyansa namin and paunti-unti, gagawin namin yung best namin sa mga best games na dapat na maipanalo namin para nandu’n pa rin kami sa top four.”
