DOWN in España, University of Santo Tomas continues to have La Salle’s number in UAAP women’s volleyball.
The Golden Tigresses’ five-set fightback over the Lady Spikers on Wednesday marked their fourth straight head-to-head victory since the second round of prelims play in UAAP Season 85 two years ago.

And in the duel of the league's two longest-tenured coaches, it was 10-year UST coach Kungfu Reyes who had the last laugh yet again over 28-year La Salle tactician Ramil de Jesus.
Speaking on his behalf, UST’s libero-captain Detdet Pepito shared what she considers to be the Golden Tigresses’ cutting edge every time they take on their Taft counterparts.
May it be in elimination round matches or pressure-packed Final Four battles like last year, Pepito and her teammates make sure to put forward what the UAAP has always been about: school pride.
“I think ‘yung grit talaga namin. This time, nabalik ulit namin ‘yung gutom talaga (para manalo),” Pepito said.
“Laging sinasabi niya (Reyes) talaga na magakroon ng pride. UST ‘yung dinadala namin, hindi ‘yung kanya-kanyang apelyido. Pride lang talaga.”

Being the unapologetic and outspoken leader she’s always been, Pepito made sure to give the Golden Tigresses a much-needed reality check before going into battle with their modern-day rivals.
“’Yung past few games namin, nagkanya-kanya talaga kami kaya nahirapan kami kasi hindi naman kami ganun maglaro na isa lang ‘yung pupuntos at isa lang ‘yung gumagalaw,” Pepito said.
“Tinanong ko sila kung ano bang gusto namin individually and as a team, kung ano bang goal talaga namin this season. Napag-usapan naman na namin at sana makamit nga namin ‘yung goal na ‘yun this season.”
