THERE is no more thrilling way to end the first round of the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament than seeing a rematch of last year's finals.
And while National U vs. University of Santo Tomas is a must-see match all onto itself, another reason to watch is yet another faceoff between best friends in Lady Bulldogs captain Bella Belen and Golden Tigresses skipper Detdet Pepito.
“Siyempre, bilog naman po ang bola. Maraming pwedeng mangyari,” said Belen after they stayed spotless ahead of the finals rematch.

“Excited lang ako na makalaban ulit si Detdet and yung UST kasi marami kaming pwedeng matutunan sa kanila na pwede naming dalhin sa second round,” she added.
Blue-and-gold vs. Black-and-gold
As NU, undefeated through six starts, stands alone atop the leaderboard, UST stands just right behind with a 5-1 card, while having won five in a row.
“Sa nakikita namin ngayon sa UST, paangat yung laro nila,” the two-time MVP remarked about the black-and-gold.
“Kailangan maging maganda yung tapos namin sa first round,” she added.
And for a fine finish to the first round, Belen said the Lady Bulldogs need to iron out the kinks, especially against the Golden Tigresses who have always seemed to have their number during the eliminations.
As she put it, “Kaya naman namin iangat pa yung level namin ng paglalaro. Siyempre, yung mga kalaban nag-iimprove din.”
