IN their first game in UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball, it looked like not much has changed for National U.
With a championship core led by Bella Belen, Alyssa Solomon, and Lams Lamina still running the show, the Lady Bulldogs swept - yes, swept - modern-day rival La Salle to open their title defense.

Look closer, however, and more than a few key things has actually changed for the blue-and-gold.

Now calling the shots is PVL Grand Slam-winning tactician Sherwin Meneses, while now dominating their uniforms is a color other than their usual blue, gold, and white.
Why change what isn't broken?
“Actually, inspired siya... Kasi nag-international league kami, nakalaban namin yung NEC Red Rockets, Japan team sila,” skipper Belen explained, talking about seeing action in the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in September last year.
“Yung jersey nila is red and gray, sabi namin parang maganda yung gray. Parang bagay sa amin yung gray.”

And so, inspired by the Japanese side that won the regional tournament, NU requested new outfitter adidas for threads that steer away from their traditional colors.
“New look din para fresh sa eyes. Para light-light lang ‘yung aura,” Belen furthered with her signature smile.
Indeed, it was a new look for the Lady Bulldogs. At the same time, though, their play remained up to its golden standard.
