NORMAN Miguel confirmed that he will call the shots for the National University Lady Bulldogs in Season 81 of the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
After weeks of speculations over his status at NU, Miguel broke his silence and confirmed that he is the new head coach of the rookie-laden Lady Bulldogs during their team practice on Friday at the NU Gym.
“Nag-start ako noong December 17,” said Miguel, who replaced former NU head coach Babes Castillo.
The former De La Salle Green Spikers mentor has been appointed as assistant coach for both the NU girls and women’s volleyball teams before management elevated him to the head-coaching role.
Miguel, who had a 5-9 win-loss record with the Green Spikers last season, left De La Salle after the University Games Dumaguete 2018 last October.
“Nagpaalam ako sa La Salle after UniGames formally,” said Miguel, who for a long time also served as assistant coach of the Green Spikers.
NU reached the Final Four last year in Jaja Santiago's final season under coach Castillo, finishing fourth in the elimination with a 7-7 win-loss record before losing to twice-to-beat De La Salle in the semifinals.
Miguel is ushering in a new era with rookies Ivy Lacsina, Princess Robles, Joyme Cagande and Jennifer Nierva along with holdovers led by new skipper Roselyn Doria, Risa Sato and Audrey Paran.
The Lady Bulldogs will fly to Thailand on Sunday for their training camp.
