COACH Norman Miguel is eager for the second round of the eliminations to start as National University tries to close in on the leaders in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
Miguel is urging the Lady Bulldogs to focus on the campaign and overcome the distractions as they look to improve after scoring only two wins in seven matches.
“Ewan ko ba. Hindi nauubusan ng problema,” Miguel said. “Actually hindi nakapagtraining si Ivy (Lacsina) kahapon dahil may emergency sa bahay nila. She just showed up dito sa game so parang yun yung medyo missing link kanina, hindi siya nakaconnect parang ganun.”
Still, Miguel is confident they will do much better in the next round.
“Malinaw naman sa amin sa second round kailangan walang excuses ang dami kasi talagang nangyayari sa amin kung minsan okay na lahat biglang magkakaroon ng problema,” he said.
“Usapan namin sa second round wala nang ganun kailangan lumaban, magstep up. Kasi kaya pa naman.”
Lacsina came up with 11 points in NU’s four-set loss to league-leading Ateneo even after missing practice on Friday as her pregnant mother was brought to the hospital.
The 6-foot-2 middle blocker said she hardly had any sleep, but vowed to work even harder as the Lady Bulldogs chase the leaders.
“Yung performance namin nung first round maganda kasi halos lahat ng nakalaban namin binigyan namin sila ng challenge,” Lacsina said.
“Magtatrabaho ulit kami sa second round paakyat yung team namin. “Mas dodoblehin pa namin, this second round ayaw na ni coach na may excuses kami work hard lagi and connect lang sa team,” she added.
Lacsina said that the lack of training and rest affected her game, but she is eager to make up for it.
“Hindi naman (bothered) parang nabigatan lang ako sa sarili ko kasi wala akong masyadong pahinga,” said Lacsina.
