SHAINA Nitura broke her silence on the controversial social media exchanges that unfurled between some of her family members and the mother of Far Eastern University setter Tin Ubaldo.
Without tackling the issue directly, Nitura delved on her ongoing social media blackout and staying focused amid countless distractions in her rookie year with Adamson in UAAP Season 87.

“Hindi po ako nagso-social media,” Nitura said.

“Busy rin po kasi. Marami po kaming responsibilities na ginagampanan sa pagiging estudyante, pagiging atleta, and yung relationship pa namin sa kapwa teammates.
“Nako-cover up nu’n yung time na bored, ganyan, so ‘di talaga nakakatulong. Actually kahit may social media ako dati, ‘di ako masyadong nakakahawak ng phone and nakakapag-socialize sa social media kasi busy.”
Online war of words
Following the Lady Falcons' four-set loss to the Lady Tamaraws last Sunday, Nitura's mother Marie shared a photo of four FEU players staring down on Shaina.
Her remarks on that post on her personal Facebook account then drew flak for how she supposedly went at student-athletes in Tin Ubaldo, Jaz Ellarina, Gerz Petallo, and Chenie Tagaod.
Nitura’s mother later described herself as Disney villain ‘Maleficent,’ the antagonist in 'Sleeping Beauty,' while also acknowledging how her daughter opted not to be involved in the exchange of tirades.
Not long after, Ubaldo’s mom Erlinda responded to the Nitura matriarch’s post by pointing out how no other parent took offense when Shaina had her own ‘swag moments.’

She ended by calling herself ‘Lady Dragon’ as an apparent response to Marie's ‘Maleficent’ tag, along with a reminder to be careful with choice of words when making comments online.
Nitura’s siblings, both of whom are also student-athletes in Mapua Cardinal Cyrus and Letran Lady Knight Judiel, chimed in to support their sister as well.
When asked about her thoughts on these exchanges, Shaina was expectedly tight-lipped.
“Wala naman po (akong masasabi),” she answered when asked about them.
