UST star Milena Alessandrini was initially diagnosed with a partial tear on her left ACL hours after her awkward fall in their match against FEU in UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
UST head coach Kungfu Reyes said that the initial readings of Alessandrini’s MRI showed a partial tear on her ACL but she will be re-evaluated on Monday for the final diagnosis.
Reyes, the Tigresses and the whole UST community are praying that it won’t be a season-ending injury for the Fil-Italian star, who averaged 15.6 points in their first three games.
Alessandrini hurt her left knee after an attack attempt in the second set, where UST held an 18-17 lead. She fell awkwardly and the game was stopped as was not able to stand up until she was stretchered out back to the locker room before she was rushed to the UST hospital.
UST, which fell to a 2-2 win-loss record after the four-set loss to FEU, tries to regain its winning ways against an also bounce back-seeking team, De La Salle that absorbed its first setback to UP.
The Tigresses, however, are likely to miss the services of Alessandrini in their Wednesday match at the Arena in San Juan City.
