ATENEO eyes its fifth victory in a row, while University of the Philippines tries to bounce back when they take on separate foes in UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.
On a hot streak after an opening-weekend loss, the Lady Eagles, at 4-1, look to tighten the grip on the solo lead.
The Lady Eagles and Lady Falcons clash at 2 p.m.
Ateneo head coach Oliver Almadro reminded his wards against complacency after a three-set win over University of the Philippines, and he expects the team led by Kat Tolentino and Maddie Madayag to play their best against struggling Adamson, which holds a 1-4 win-loss record.
“Laging sinasabi ko kanila, every game we say, learning curve so meron pang kaming ilalabas,” Almadro said. “We’ll be better than our best. Iyon ang lagi naming sinasabi pero kung iyon ang lagi mong iniisip, you’ll be better than your best and better than every game.”
The Lady Maroons, meanwhile, try to bounce back as they battle the rookie-laden National University Lady Bulldogs at 4 p.m.
UP scored a big win over titleholder La Salle but was sent crashing back to earth by Ateneo, and UP head coach Godfrey Okumu is hoping Isa Molde and Tots Carlos can regain their groove and tow the squad back on the winning track.
“You could see we did not play our game. We lost focus. We were not in the game. Our minds were somewhere else,” Okumu said.
“We need to work mentally, we have to be strong mentally. We have to stay focused. I hope on Wednesday we'll be focused and we'll be ready to go.”
UP has a 3-2 win-loss record at fifth place, while NU is in joint sixth with a 1-4 card.
