MADDIE Madayag was glad to quickly regain her groove after a sluggish opening-day performance, helping Ateneo make it to the win column in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.
The 5-foot-11 middle blocker came up with 15 points from nine spikes and six blocks as the Lady Eagles beat the University of Sto. Tomas Tigresses in four, a huge improvement from her five-point performance in the opening match against the La Salle Lady Spikers.
“We just did our role kasi my role is to lead the team also. If leading the team requires my scoring, why not, di ba? Whatever I can do, I'll do it,” Madayag said.
“We're very happy na nakabawi din kami, and that we showed somewhat how we played,” she added.
While only two players scored in double figures for the Lady Eagles — Kat Tolentino again showed the way for the Lady Eagles with 22 points — Madayag says the match showed Ateneo’s real style of play.
They are now tied with UST at 1-1.
“Like what everybody was saying, hindi 'yun'yung laro namin,” she said, referring to the match against La Salle.
“Noong first game na, 'di siya agad nag-sink in and then nagka-first game jitters. I guess pagdating ng training we were really focused na.”
“Nakikita namin na marami pa kaming pagkukulang inside the court, and that's what we need to work on,” Madayag said. “Hopefully, sana maging consistent kami sa mga maganda naming napakita.”
