ANTIPOLO CITY — Far Eastern University is hoping Lycha Ebon would be able to return in a week even as the Lady Tamaraws rookie was initially diagnosed with a sprained medial collateral ligament or quadriceps tendon.

Ebon went down in the fifth set of the Lady Tamaraws’ win over the Adamson Lady Falcons in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Ynares Sports Center.

Lady Tamaraws Physical Therapist Marilou Regidor says the swelling is minimal, and believes it could just be a right knee sprain. Ebon is set to undergo MRI on Monday.

Ebon scored 19 points before leaving after an awkward landing.

“Yung pangyayari nakaplant na siya, nakasquat na siya and then nagtwist out, nagrecoil siya to twist in. So di ko naman (sinasabi) sa super major injury siya,” Regidor said.

“Parang MCL or quad tendon sprain kasi sabi niya may nagpop,” Regidor said, adding that FEU won’t risk fielding Ebon in Saturday’s match against University of the East at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“Hindi ko masabi pero sure this week rest muna siya back to recovery muna for her,” Regidor said.

“Medyo okay na siya nakabraces na siya, inistabilize ko na so as of now in pain pa siya so hindi ko pa marecheck yung injury niya,” Regidor added. “Hindi naman masyadong maga ngayon so medyo less na yung worry ko.”

For Jeanette Villareal, who sprained her right ankle in the first set, Regidor said that there is nothing to worry about as it is just a recurring injury and she is cleared to play next game.

“Recurring sprain lang pero at least namanage naman niya ankle sprain so makakalaro siya,” she said.

FEU head coach George Pascua hopes that Ebon’s injury is nothing serious and could return for their remaining six elimination matches

“Hopefully yung recovery niya is mabilis. Di ko pa alam kasi wala pa akong initial na report talaga, wala pang mga test,” Pascua said. “Depende sa magiging ano siguro, result ng test niya.“

Pascua is pinning his hopes on Ivana Agudo to fill in for Ebon.

“Kailangan may magpuno doon sa pwesto ni Lycha. Andyan naman si Ivana, so si Ivana is playing well,” he said. “Hindi ganoon kalaki yung, kumbaga yung adjustment hindi ganoon kalaki kasi beterano na rin si Ivana.”
