ANTIPOLO City — Far Eastern University survived losing two key players to injury and avoided the upset axe against cellar-dwelling Adamson University, 30-32, 25-20, 23-25, 25-20, 15-13, on Sunday in UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Ynares Sports Center.
Rookie Lycha Ebon gave FEU a 3-1 fifth set lead but hurt her right knee on an awkward landing and was not able to continue.
FEU lost middle blocker Jeanette Villareal to a sprained right ankle with the first set tied at 26.
Adamson fought back from 5-10 to tie the fifth set at 11 on Bern Flora’s hit and MJ Igao’s drop ball.
Lady Falcons’ rookie Hannah Infante committed a service error, while Lady Tams’ service specialist Carly Hernandez nailed an ace for a 13-11 breather but a net touch violation followed by Flora’s hit tied the match anew.
Jerrili Malabanan and Kyle Negrito came to the rescue and delivered the game-winning spikes as the Lady Tamaraws improved their win-loss record to 5-3.
Ebon was the topscorer of the match with 19 points.
Buti na lang kahit papaano, na-handle namin yung situation,” he added.
Heather Guino-o put up an all-around game with 14 points, 14 excellent receptions and 10 digs.
Kyle Negrito dished out 23 excellent sets and scored nine points —six from the service line.
Malabanan and Czarina Carandang socred eight each, while Buding Duremdes had 37 digs and 13 excellent receptions.
Adamson committed 42 errors and suffered their seventh loss in eight matches.
Eli Soyud had 17 points, Joy Dacoron and Chiara Permentilla chipped in 15 points each, while Flora added 11 markers on top of 17 digs and 15 excellent receptions.
MJ Igao had 24 excellent sets and seven points, while Thang Ponce had 21 digs and 17 excellent receptions.
