FAR Eastern University survived a huge scare from University of the East, 25-15, 24-26, 25-22, 20-25, 15-9, on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Tamaraws earned their second straight win, improving to a 3-2 win-loss record.
Lycha Ebon came up with back-to-back hits to cap an 8-2 run that put the Lady Tamaraws in control.
A recruit from Davao, Ebon finished with 21 points off 17 kills, three service aces and a block.
Celine Domingo scattered nine spikes, six blocks and a pair of aces for 17 points, while Jeanette Villareal had five blocks and finished with 10 markers.
“Kahit na-(down) kami ng fifth set. Hindi po ako nagdududa sa sarili ko. Hindi ako nag-doubt. Naniwala ako kela ate na makakaya namin at mananalo kami,” Ebon said.
France Ronquillo scored nine points, while Heather Guino-o contributed seven markers to go with 12 digs and nine excellent receptions.
“Yung pagka-panalo namin, hindi siya ganoon kadali. Kasi sabi ko nga sa team ngayon, lahat unpredictable ang magiging performance. Buti na-manage namin noong fifth set,”said Lady Tams coach George Pascua.
“May mga dapat pang ayusin kasi nagkakamiscommunication sa court. So chemistry siguro.”
FEU eyes its third straight win against Adamson (1-3) on Sunday.
Me-ann Mendrez scored 21 points for UE, which dropped to 1-4 card before the match against La Salle on Saturday.
Judith Abil delivered 10 points made made 28 digs and 24 excellent receptions, while Seth Rodriguez also had 10 markers.
