LOURDES Clemente passed the eligibility and made it to the final lineup of De La Salle Lady Spikers for her one-and-done season but Michelle Morente won’t see action in UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.
Clemente‘s jump from the NCAA to UAAP got the green light as the former University of Perpetual Help star was cleared by an eligibility committee, allowing 11-time UAAP champion coach Ramil De Jesus put her in the final roster.
The former NCAA Best Middle Blocker vowed to help La Salle in its bid for a historic ‘four-peat’.
“Ginusto ko to kailangan ibigay ko ang best ko. One time, big time. Kahit nahihirapan ako sa system kailangan ibigay ko pa rin ang natutunan ko, kailangan all out ako,” said the Tourism graduate of Perpetual Help who is pursuing a Masters degree at La Salle.
Clemente is raring to share her experience — four NCAA seasons and a stint with F2 Logistics in the Philippine Superliga — to the rebuilding Lady Spikers, who lost the troika of Majoy Baron, Kianna Dy and Dawn Macandili
“Talagang medyo mataas ang (expectations) sa akin na maibigay ko ang hinihingi nila eh. Yung expectations nila super laki,” she said. “Kasi yung sinasabi nila na yung exposure ko, nag–graduate na ako, na dapat ang laro ko ngayon hindi na pang college. Pang-pro na dapat.“
Morente was not included in La Salle’s lineup as she will play for F2 Logistics in the PSL Grand Prix, which will also open over the weekend and runs the same calendar as UAAP.
Morente’s non-inclusion in the Lady Spikers roster means the transferee from Ateneo has already exhausted her playing years in the league after representing La Salle in the beach volleyball tournament with Tin Tiamzon.
UP’s rookie sensation Nicole Magsarile also didn’t make it the final cut of the Lady Maroons due to the loaded spikers position bannered by Isa Molde, Tots Carlos, Marian Buitre, Caryl Sandoval and Rosie Rosier.
NU’s returning setter Rica Diolan was not included in the roster as the Lady Bulldogs will bank on eight rookies with only three seniors. UST’s Carla Sandoval was also not part of the Tigresses but she will play for Foton Tornadoes in the PSL Grand Prix.
Meanwhile, setter Kim Harold Dayandante was said to be ineligible for NU in their title-retention bid in the men’s division.
UAAP board member and eligibility committee Rod Roque said Dayandante already exhausted his playing years in the league but NU officials are still seeking reconsideration on his status.
“Dayandante has already consumed his 5 playing years which is the maximum but NU officials are still verifying his status,” Roque told Spin.ph in a text message.
