LA Salle and University of Santo Tomas clash in a playoff for the No. 2 spot on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Spikers and Tigresses clash at 3:30 p.m. at the start of a virtual best-of-three semifinals, with the winner getting a twice-to-beat incentive in the Final Four.

La Salle is looking to bounce back after failing to secure the No. 2 spot outright Sunday, falling to fourth seed Far Eastern University in five.

That left La Salle and UST tied with 10-4 win-loss records.

Focus will again be on Sisi Rondina and Eya Laure, who led the UST to a first-round upset of La Salle, and Desiree Cheng, who led the Lady Spikers’ in getting back at the Tigresses in the second round.

Laure is making a semifinal appearancein her rookie year and is dedicating her performances to her elder sister EJ, who led the Tigresses to their last semifinal appearance, in Season 79.

EJ has missed two seasons due to a shoulder injury.

“Gagamitin ko rin na motivation kasi siyempre andun na rin yung factor na sana andito siya sa tabi namin pero yun nga, so be it na yung ganun,” the 20-year-old rookie said.

Laure is also hoping to put on a show for others who could not suit up, with Tin Francisco ruled out before the tournament due to a knee ligament tear and Milena Alessandrini suffering a knee injury injury in their fourth match.

“Para ‘to sa lahat. Isang malaking motivation to sakin kasi nakita ko last season na sobrang down, sobrang nasaktan din ako kasi nakikita ko yung mga paghihirap nila,” Laure said.

“Before nung training nila, kami yung nagte-training, so nakikita ko kung pano sila naghihirap at pano sila nasaktan.”

UST has not reached the finals in eight seasons, but Laure believes the current team has what it takes to get past the Final Four.

“Yung team namin dumaan siya sa maraming pagsubok and nalagpasan namin. Kahit may mga times na nagda-doubt kami sa sarili namin kung kaya ba namin to, eto ba talaga yung laro namin, pero andyan sina coach,”

“Sila yung natitirang tao na kahit sabihin mo na wala kang tiwala sa sarili mo pero andyan siya para i-remind yung team na kaya natin to basta tulong-tulong.”
