LA SALLE extended its winning streak to five games after dominating Far Eastern University with a straight-set victory of 25-19, 25-21 and 25-18 in UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball action held on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Setter-captain Julia Coronel played a pivotal role for the Lady Spikers, delivering 18 excellent sets along with two crucial blocks, ensuring that the team's winning momentum remained strong.

"Going to the second round, lagi naming sinasabi sa mga bata na hindi pwedeng mag-pakampante kasi lahat ng team naka-adjust na so talagang magiging mahirap. Like 'yung FEU, mataas yung kumpyansa going to the second round kasi galing sila sa panalo.

"Sinasabi lang namin sa kanila na kung ano yung trinaining namin, inaral namin against FEU, kailangan mai-apply. Kahit papano, nagawa naman nila kung ano yung dapat gawin," said La Salle deputy coach Noel Orcullo.
It didn't take long for the defending champions to replicate their three-sets shutout of the Lady Tamaraws as reigning MVP Angel Canino topped the scoresheets with 15 points on 14 attacks and one ace -- capped by an 8-0 run from 7-all in the third set to pull away late from the Morayta side.
Defense continued to be La Salle's strong suit as two-time best middle blocker Thea Gagate had a steady three-block output to the Lady Spikers' seven total net rejections while Lyka de Leon tallied nine digs and seven receptions.
On the flip side, FEU slid to .500 at 4-4 (win-loss) as its two-game win streak came to an end despite back-to-back 13-point contributions from Gerz Petallo and Faida Bakanke.
