TAFT and Recto now stand on opposite ends of season sweeps.
La Salle cleared its penultimate hurdle in the elimination round with a straight-sets 25-20, 25-18, 25-15 walloping of University of the East in UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball on Wednesday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.
The Lady Spikers are now one win away from a 14-game sweep, a feat they last achieved 12 years ago, with just modern-day rival and defending champion National U standing in their way.
Angel Canino led the way with 12 points, 10 digs, and seven receptions, while captain Shevana Laput matched her with 12 markers and four digs.

Amie Provido added eight points, and Shane Reterta chipped in five points, seven digs, and seven receptions.
La Salle's depth
The match also gave La Salle the chance to go deep into its bench, with Mikee Santos, Ella De Guzman, and Mikole Reyes logging quality minutes.
“Maganda ‘yung pinakita ng second-stringers namin. Ito nga ‘yung sinasabi ni coach [Ramil de Jesus] na nabibigyan sila ng chance na ipakita ‘yung talent nila,” said assistant coach Gian de Jesus.
It was a familiar story for the Lady Warriors, who kept things competitive early, but lacked any finishing kick to steal a set.
Khy Cepada’s 13-point, 10-reception double-double and Van Bangayan’s 10-point, six-dig effort still fell short, as UE fell to 0-13 - and another loss to Ateneo in its tournament finale would seal back-to-back winless campaigns and continue its downward spiral to 28 straight losses.
