LA SALLE shook off a second-set hiccup to ultimately shut down archrival Ateneo, 25-14, 21-25, 25-15, 25-17, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After cruising in the first set, the Lady Spikers got sloppy and saw the Blue Eagles get to both Set 2 technical timeouts first.
The green-and-white eventually tied the tally at 20-all, but Ana Hermosura sparked Ateneo to a 5-1 charge to steal the set.
Right after being handed its first set loss of the tournament, La Salle regrouped around Angel Canino and Lilay Del Castillo and cleaned up its act to get back to dominating the next two frames.

“Nakita ko na mas aggressive yung Ateneo nung second set compared to us na mas naglay-low kami,” Canino admitted.
“Reminder lang din sa bawat isa sa'min na hindi ibig sabihin na nanalo kami ng isang set, magle-lay low kami. Kasi hindi natatapos yung game in one set. Magandang experience na din 'to sa mga bata and sa aming lahat,” she added.
Perfect La Salle
The Lady Spikers stayed flawless through four games despite still missing team captain Shevana Laput due to illness, while also sending their age-old fierce foes to 0-4.
La Salle has now also won the rivalry game for the 17th time in a row dating back to 2017.
Canino topped the scoring column for the Lady Spikers with 21 points, coming from 19 attacks and one ace, while Amie Provido added 17 points.
Del Castillo put up 18 points of her own, including seven attacks, three aces, and eight big-time blocks.
On the other side, Hermosura fronted the effort for the Blue Eagles with 16 points, as J.Lo Delos Santos added 14 markers.
