STREAKING Ateneo and University of Santo Tomas collide to kick off the second round of UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Eagles eye their seventh straight victory and keep the solo lead, while the Tigresses try to extend their win run to four as they eye a share of the lead.
The match is set at 4 p.m. after the 2 p.m. battle between National University (2-5) and University of the East (1-6).
Ateneo is also seeking to repeat over UST after a four-set win in the first round, and Lady Eagles coach Oliver Almadro is has warned the squad led by Kat Tolentino and Maddie Madayag it will be much tougher.
“It won’t be easy for us going to the second round so we really have to put more effort, to put more sacrifices,” Almadro said. “We learned a lot and hopefully, the positivity and energy will manifest going into the second round.”
Taking the offensive load after Milena Alessandrini went down with a knee injury, UST senior Sisi Rondina and rookie Eya Laure topped the stats after the first round.
Tigresses coach Kungfu Reyes eager to sustain the solid start.
“Talagang napakaganda noong naging development ng team namin ngayon. with regards doon sa standing ngayon, malayong-malayo doon sa start ko noong three years,” Reyes said. “Sana ito na yung hinihintay namin, na eto na nga, at least andoon kami sa Top Three so far ng first round. So maganda-gandang motivation pagpasok ng second round namin.”
