NU rookie setter Joyme Cagande feared done for the season due to ACL tear

    Feb 21, 2019

NATIONAL University’s Joyme Cagande faces a long injury layoff after being diagnosed with a high grade Anterior Cruciate Ligament tear.

NU head coach Norman Miguel has yet to give an update but sources said the rookie setter will likely be out for the rest of the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.

A source said an MRI done on the player at Delos Santos Medical Center showed a high-grade ACL tear in her left knee as well as bone contusion and knee joint effusion.

ACL injury recovery usually takes six months to a year.

Cagande suffered the injury in her UAAP debut last Saturday, twisting the knee in a collision with teammate Roselyn Doria late in the third set.

She was carried off by Risa Sato back to the locker room and was brought to Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan.

Before getting hurt, Cagande made 15 excellent sets and two service aces in the NU Lady Bulldogs' four-set loss to Far Eastern University.
