IVY Lacsina led the way as National University defeated University of the East, 25-19, 25-23, 25-19, for on Saturday for its first win in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.
Lacsina scored 18 points, providing the clutch hits in each set as NU made short work of the Lady Red Warriors.
The Lady Bulldogs, now without Joyme Cagande after the rookie setter tore a left knee ligament, NU improved its win-loss record to 1-1, tying idle FEU, UST and Ateneo.
Lacsina, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker, had 14 spikes, three blocks and an ace to lead NU.
Roselyn Doria scored 12 and Audrey Paran added 10.
Princess Robles had nine points to go with eight digs and seven excellent receptions.
Joni Chavez, converted from libero to setter, made 14 excellent sets on top of four markers, while rookie libero Jennifer Nierva had 12 digs and 12 excellent receptions for NU.
“Masaya na hindi ko maexpress na alam ng lahat yung struggles ng team, sobra-sobrang challenge, yung mga nangyayari sa amin,” said NU head coach Norman Miguel on his first win in the UAAP women’s division.
The Lady Bulldogs take on La Salle on Wednesday.
Judith Abil had 10 points and 10 excellent receptions for the Lady Red Warriors, who fell to 0-2 and hope to bounce back against Adamson Lady Falcons also on Wednesday.
