FRUSTRATIONS continued to pile on National University and on Wednesday, that finally got the better of Jennifer Nierva.
The 19-year-old libero couldn't help but break and shed tears on the heels of the Lady Bulldogs' three-set defeat to La Salle, 25-20, 25-18, 25-10, that dropped them to a 2-7 win-loss slate in the UAAP Season 81 women's volleyball tournaments.
"High school days, I never felt this na natatalo, na ganito yung standing," she said.
This dry spell is a foreign experience for Nierva, who won four championships with Nazareth School of NU in the high school level together with Joyme Cagande, Ivy Lacsina, and Princess Robles.
That's why it really irks her that no matter how hard the Lady Bulldogs try, that success did not follow her in this rookie season in the collegiate level.
"Everyone is making an effort to really try their best. Pero short talaga yung team and it's really hard for me kasi nga sanay ako na nananalo lagi, na maganda lagi yung pine-perform," she said.
"Iba po yung standard ko every time I play. Every time I play, gusto ko lagi what's the best for the team. Every time na di ko siya nakikita, I'm really disappointed sa sarili ko na siguro, kulang pa. Kaya kanina, sobrang emotional ako kasi iniisip ko kung ano yung kulang, ano yung dapat ko pang ibigay para mas maganda yung outcome ng game namin."
Nierva had 18 excellent digs and 23 successful receptions, but could not help the Lady Bulldogs from committing 24 errors in the match against just 10 from Lady Spikers.
Despite this recent loss, which was their third straight defeat, Nierva said that coach Norman Miguel continued to preach positivity, that despite them sitting seventh in the team standings, the young NU squad needs to focus on developing their game moving forward.
"Sinabi lang ni coach, the most important thing here is our relationship together. Dapat, never mag-end yun," she said.
"Natatalo man kami, dapat hindi mawawala yung pagmamahal namin sa isa't isa. We entered this season, we know na talagang kulang yung team namin. So siguro, hindi man kami makakapunta sa Final Four, it's about how we're going to play the next game na buo kami."
