NATIONAL University ended a three-game skid as it knocked Adamson University out of Final Four contention, 28-26, 30-32, 25-21, 25-22, on Sunday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs kept alive their semifinal chances as they improved to sixth with a 3-7 win-loss record, while sending the Lady Falcons to their ninth loss in 10 matches.
It is the fifth straight year that Adamson has missed the Final Four.
Graduating skipper Roselyn Doria showed the way for the young Lady Bulldogs with 12 spikes, five service aces and a block for 18 points.
“Kung eager sila manalo, mas eager kami kasi naghahanap kami ng panalo. Lahat ng sakripisyo namin sa training, inapply namin,” Doria said.
Opposite spiker Ivy Lacsina was also impressive playing the middle blocker position, scoring 15 points.
Princess Robles had 14 hits and made 15 digs and 11 excellent receptions, while Audrey Paran did well adjusting from opposite to open spiker, scoring 11 markers. Jennifer Nierva had 44 digs and 33 excellent sets.
“Happy kami dahil ang tagal naming hindi nagkaroon ng panalo, first round pa yun,” said NU head coach Norman Miguel. “Nagkaroon kami ng changes sa system namin, nag-middle si Ivy, nag-open hitter si Audrey, though may mga lapses pa rin, hoping sa mga next game namin, maging maayos ang galawan namin with that change.”
NU tries to continue to boost its semifinals bid as it faces Ateneo (8-1) on Sunday next week at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Bern Flora led Adamson with 16 points on top of 22 digs. Chiara Permentilla had 14 points, Eli Soyud scored 12 and Joy Dacoron added 10.
Adamson faces titleholder La Salle (6-3) on Sunday.
