IVANA Agudo didn’t only provide the spark and the clutch hits for Far Eastern University but her breakout game is also an inspiration to her teammates as she fills in the big shoes of injured rookie Lycha Ebon.

Little known from FEU’s bench for the past three seasons, Agudo finally made her presence felt and proved that she could help the team win games as she was instrumental in their come-from-behind 25-15, 16-25, 12-25, 25-22, 16-14 victory over University of the East on Saturday in UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Jerrili Malabanan, who came to the rescue by hitting the two winning spikes, said that Agudo inspired her.

“I think during the whole game, I was really inspired by Ivana, the way she stepped up. I think we really followed her lead today,” said the FEU captain on Agudo. “We knew that Ivana could really help our team and provide for us when we're one man down, so I'm really proud of the way she performed today.”

Agudo said that she just wanted to help her teammates and step up big time for starting rookie Ebon, who will be out at least until the Holy Week due as her right knee injury is still under evaluation.

“Kailangan po ng tulong nila ate,” said Agudo, who led the Lady Tams with 12 points, four coming from the crucial stretch of the fifth set.

The third-year opposite hitter wanted to prove that she is willing to do anything for her team regardless if coming off the bench or starting, saying she is always ready to step up anytime.

“Kahit hindi man ako makapag-provide ng score, at least sa ibang paraan naman po, tapos ayun, unexpected din po yung nagawa ko today so sobrang happy po ako,” Agudo said.

As Ebon would likely miss at least four of their last elimination round games, head coach George Pascua will continue banking on Agudo as they try to reach the Final Four in a good position tied at second place with De La Salle and University of Santo Tomas holding identical 6-3 win-loss records.

“Kailangan lang, ma-sustain lang namin without Lycha. Andyan naman si Ivan to help yung team, and with the seniors,” Pascua said. “Nagawa naman nila yung trabaho. Nakaka-proud na nagawa nila yung part nila without one of the best players namin.”
