HEATHER Guino-o came up with a career-best 22 points and Jerrili Malabanan scored a season-high 17 as Far Eastern University defeated University of the Philippines, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22, on Saturday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Guino-o delivered 18 spikes, including the match clinching hit as FEU bounced back from a straight-sets loss to Ateneo.
The Lady Tamaraws improved their win-loss record to 7-4, tied for third with University of Santo Tomas.
UP fell to fifth place with a 6-5 record as star hitter Isa Molde played limited minutes after suffering a left ankle sprain last week.
Celine Domingo, scoreless the previous match, scored eight to match Jeanette Villareal.
“Sabi ko nga sa kanila natalo man tayo sa Ateneo pero don’t give up. Kaya ang motto namin, ‘Matapang ako, lalaban ako, kaya ko,’” said FEU coach George Pascua.
The Lady Tamaraws next face the National University Lady Bulldogs (3-7) on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan City.
FEU dominated UP in attacking and service aces as the Lady Tams dominated the spiking department with a 53-42 disparity and fired 16 aces against seven by the Lady Maroons.
Tots Carlos put up 22 points and made 23 digs and 18 excellent receptions for UP.
Justine Dorog had 15 points and 20 digs.
UP tries to bounce back against UST on Wednesday.
