FAR Eastern University barely needed to shift gears in dismantling University of the East, 25-20, 25-14, 25-14, in UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball on Wednesday at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

The Lady Tamaraws shrugged off a brief first-set challenge from the Lady Warriors, who managed to stay within striking distance and even hold slim leads early.

From there, FEU imposed its will, tearing down the Recto side’s defense and pulling away with decisive runs.

The green-and-gold seized full control in the next two frames, erecting leads of as much as 12 to wrap up a swift straight-sets victory and notch its first mark on the win column.

Jaz Ellarina sparked a block party at the net, swatting away any flicker of a red-and-white rally with five kill blocks to headline her 11-point outing built on five attacks and an ace.

Faida Bakanke matched her with 11 markers, erupting in the first set to steady the Lady Tamaraws after an early scare.

The second frame turned into a rout, as UE was caught flat-footed, allowing Gerz Petallo to dictate tempo with a solid all-around effort of nine points, nine digs, and six receptions.

The third set mirrored the previous one, with FEU flexing complete control en route to identical scorelines and a dominant sweep that evened their record at 1-1.

Lovely Lopez also chipped in eight points, three digs, and three receptions to bolster the balanced attack.

Van Bangayan, who erupted for 19 points in their season-opening loss to the University of the Philippines, was limited to eight this time out.
