UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas seeks to secure at least a playoff for a Final Four berth, while University of the Philippines tries to stay in the semis hunt as the Tigresses and Lady Maroons collide on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.
The Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws also look to secure at least a playoff for a semis berth when they face the also-ran National University Lady Bulldogs (3-8) at 2 p.m.
The UST-UP match is set at 4 p.m.
The Tigresses hold a 7-4 win-loss record, tied with Far Eastern University, while UP is sporting a 6-5 card at fifth place.
Coach Godfrey Okumu has said last week they need to sweep their remaining four matches, but the Lady Maroons fell against FEU and now the race to the semis gets even tougher.
“We made it difficult for us so we just have to work on it and we have to win the remaining games, we have to fight,” said added.
Injured star Isa Molde played limited minutes against FEU and Okumu is hoping Tots Carlos, Ayel Estranero, Justine Dorog and Marian Buitre can get the team back on track.
“They’re very tough. We just have to think how we’re going to serve and our floor defense also have to be up to date As far as UST is concerned they are a good spiking team,” Okumu said.
