UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas vented its ire on Adamson University, scoring a 25-15, 25-12, 25-16, victory on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.
Coming off a collapse against the league-leading Ateneo Lady Eagles, the Tigresses made a short work of the Lady Falcons and improved their win-loss record to 6-3.
The Lady Falcons are on the brink of elimination, suffering their fifth straight loss for a 1-8 record.
The Tigresses next face the La Salle Lady Spikers on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Eya Laure led UST with 17 points off 15 spikes and a pair of blocks.
Caitlyn Viray had a career-high 14 points on nine attacks, three blocks and two aces. Dimdim Pacres had 12 points and 12 digs, while skipper Sisi Rondina scored 10 points and made including 14 digs.
“Happy, at maganda pa rin ang standing namin. Nag-6-3 kami ngayon. Happy ulit kasi lalabas kami ng walang injury,” UST head coach Kungfu Reyes said.
“Nag-perform naman si Caitlyn na medyo matagal na naming hinihintay na pumasok dito. Andito na siya so masaya kami nadagdagan itong dalawa (Rondina and Laure).”
After a five-set encounter in the first round Tigresses annihilated the Lady Falcons this time, finishing the match in an hour and 13 minutes. UST dominated Adamson in the attacking department with a 48-18 disparity and 7-1 in blocking.
“This time mas composed itong mga player, mas relaxed. Every time na may galaw, nagbabasa ang mga player,” Reyes said. “Naka-focus kami sa game plan and yung home work nila ginawa nila ng maayos. Ang binibigyan namin ng emphasis yung moving without the ball.”
The only time Adamson held the lead was in the second set with a 6-3 start but UST answered with a 14-1 run for a 17-7 spread.
Nobody scored in double figures for Adamson with Joy Dacoron delivering eight points, while skipper Eli Soyud only played in the first set and scored two.
