EYA Laure proved that she is willing to do whatever it takes for University of Santo Tomas lifting the team back to the UAAP women’s volleyball Finals for the first time in eight years.
The rookie sensation came through with back-to-back big attacks in the fifth set that sent UST to the Season 81 Finals and ended De La Salle’s three-year reign with a 25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 15-10 victory in their Final Four showdown on Sunday at the MOA Arena.
But behind her heroics and career-best 25 points in the Final Four, Laure played through a hurting left knee that she sustained early in the third set awkwardly landing from
a spike attempt and collided with Aduke Ogunsanya.
But she stood up and even helped and apologized to Ogunsanya and still finished the grueling five-set match.
Paulit-ulit niya akong tinatanong noon kung ‘kaya mo pa ba?’” she added.
It was the same moment with her elder sister EJ Laure, who suffered an ankle injury during their Final Four match against the twice-to-beat La Salle in Season 79, but still stood up and kept fighting for UST even it lost in that game.
Eya showed that like her sister, she’s a fighter and she won’t let the team down in crucial moments even she has to sacrifice something.
Laure is about to make her first Finals appearance, she promised to stick on what coach Kungfu Reyes and her graduating captain Sisi Rondina have been saying to the team, to have each other’s back whatever happens.
“Whatever it takes, we got each other’s back,” Laure said. “In-orient din kami ni Ate Sisi, ni-remind niya kami na walang iwanan, no pressure kasi wala namang mawawala samin and laruin lang natin yung nilalaro natin kasi andyan naman tayo para sa isa’t isa.”
