UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas rookie sensation Eya Laure was taken to the locker room after hurting her left ankle following an awkward landing in Game Two of the UAAP women's volleyball finals against Ateneo on Wednesday.
The newly minted Rookie of the Year was carried by her father Eddie Laure, coaches Kungfu Reyes and Ian Fernandez after she slumped to the floor writhing in pain at the start of the set.
As of posting time, Laure is still at the locker room with Game 2 tied at one-set apiece, but his dad assured that she can return.
“Mild ankle sprain lang. pero syempre masakit,” said the elder Laure. “Okay naman. Niyeyelo lang para mawala yung dakit, makakabalik.”
She finally returned to the UST bench with Ateneo leading, 29-18, in the third set and reported back to action replacing Dindin Pacres a while later.
However, it remains to be seen how the injury will impact Laure's play and UST's bid to close out the best-of-three series.
Ateneo went on to win the set, 24-21.
