UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas head coach Kungfu Reyes said that EJ Laure has yet to show up in the team practices for UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament.
EJ Laure is reportedly skipping another year with the Tigresses, begging off out of respect to the current roster, which joined several preseason leagues like the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference, Philippine Superliga Collegiate Grand Slam, and a successful three-peat run in the University Games, Dumaguete.
But Reyes was shocked when asked about the begging off of Laure as she has yet to attend since their practice resumed last December 27.
“Hindi naman siya nagpapakita sa ensayo although eligible siya maglaro. Kung ikaw ba coach, hindi nagpapakita sa ensayo ila-lineup mo ba?” Reyes told Spin.ph.
Although Laure’s chances of making it to the final cut is dimming, Reyes is not closing his doors on the former team skipper, who missed Season 80 due to an injured shoulder and has been away from the volleyball limelight for a year.
“Depende kung magpakita siya ng husay niya [baka pwede pa ma-lineup],” the UST coach said.
Spin.ph is still trying to reach the Season 77 co-Rookie of the Year as of posting time.
Reyes admitted that he and his coaching staff have yet to decide on the final lineup for Season 81 as they are patiently selecting from the stacked roster bannered by rookies Eya Laure, Ysa Jimenez, Maji Mangulabnan, and MaFe Galanaza and senior spikers Sisi Rondina, Dimdim Pacres, Alina Bicar, Milena Alessandrini, Tin Francisco, and Caitlyn Viray.
“Wala pa kasi inaayos pa namin at ng opisina kung sino ang papasok sa lineup,” he said. “May halos isang buwan pa naman [bago mag-umpisa ang season] so sa ngayon wala pa kaming lineup.”
