EYA Laure's injury scare really took a toll on the psyche of University of Santo Tomas which led to its Game Two defeat in the UAAP Season 81 women's volleyball Finals on Wednesday.
That's the assessment Dimdim Pacres gave after the Golden Tigresses failed to close the championship series out and lost to Ateneo, 26-24, 14-25, 25-21, 25-15.
"Yun talaga," she said. "Naapektuhan din yung team kaya bumaba din (yung morale) namin. Kailangan namin ng may mag-lift up sa amin."
Laure went down early in the third set after suffering a mild left ankle sprain that took the air out of the UST faithful.
In her lieu, coach Kungfu Reyes brought in Pacres to keep the ship afloat and make up for the absence of the super-rookie in the third and fourth sets.
Laure did make her comeback, but was evidently not the same as the Golden Tigresses eventually surrendered to the Lady Eagles.
Pacres finished with three markers in the losing effort, but vowed to do more for UST as the series heads to a Game Three on Saturday.
"Sabi ni coach, kailangan kong maglaro lang. Kailangan ng suporta ng team kaya sa training pa lang, pina-practice ko na yung ginagawa ko sa loob," she said.
The fourth-year opposite hitter, however, said that more than anything, UST must trim down on its miscues after giving up 30 in the contest, including 12 in the first set alone.
"Ang dami naming unforced errors, so yun ang dapat bawasan namin," said Pacres, still confident of the Golden Tigresses' chances for the winner-take-all match.
"Actually kaya naman namin eh. Kita naman nung Game One, kaya namin. So sana ganoon pa rin sa Game Three."
