BIG game or not, this man makes sure he’s present to give the loudest and most animated cheers for National University in the UAAP.
No, he’s not a student nor an alumnus of the school, he’s simply just a fan. Yet JJ Villanueva, 55, hardly misses an NU game. No matter what sport; no matter where the games are played.

“Lagi ko pinupuntahan, kahit anong laro, mapa-basketball, ngayon volleyball, mapa-babae o lalaki, kahit sa MOA pa yan, dito [Araneta] o sa Pasig,” he said on Wednesday at the Big Dome.
Villanueva is based in Tanay, Rizal and he doesn't mind enduring the perenially gridlocked traffic in the area to get to any game destination and cheer for NU.
More impressively, he pays for his own tickets and transportation expenses. No freebies here.
“Nagco-commute lang ako, bus, MRT, kahit ako’y gumastos nang gumatos, mapanood ko lang sila. Ako ang bumibili ng ticket, ito P450 kada may laro, basta pupuntahan ko yan.”
Villanueva also shared that it’s been more than a decade now since he grew fondness for the school's teams.
“Simula pa nung maliit ang eskwelahan nila, fan na ako. Nakita ko na lumago, bago pa maglaro sila Jaja Santiago diyan,” he said.
Why NU?
“Kulelat yan dati sila, kaya sabi ko susuportahan ko to, masarap suportahan to hanggang sa lumago, gumaling na ng gumaling, at ito na nga,” he said.
Now he keeps his hopes up that the Lady Bulldogs will reclaim the crown as they inch closer to the top spot with 12-2 record.
“Alam ko kaya nila mag-champion ulit, ipinagch-cheer ko sila para makatulong sa kompyansa,” he added.
Villanueva lists Bella Belan and Alyssa Solomon among his favorite players. And the players’ show of gratitude is enough to make him come back any day.
“Nagpapasalamat yang mga players, kilala nila ako, ang lakas kaya ng boses ko.”
