THREE-time defending champion La Salle made short work of Adamson, 25-16, 25-21, 25-20, on Saturday for its second straight victory in the UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.

Michelle Cobb dished out 25 excellent sets as La Salle joined University of the Philippines on top of the standings at 2-0.

It was La Salle’s 12th straight win since losing to Adamson in last season’s first round.

Rookie sensation Jolina Dela Cruz led all scorers with 10 points all coming from attacks including 18 digs. Desiree Cheng and Aduke Ogunsanya delivered nine points each, while May Luna added eight markers. CJ Saga protected the floor with 22 digs and nine excellent sets.

“Hindi ko rin inaasahan na gagalaw ng maayos mga bata kasi knowing Adamson, floor defense, good passer tapos maayos din set plays nila mabilis. Siguro mas nakakilos ng maayos yung mga bata,” La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus said.

La Salle will gun for its third win against NU (1-1) on Wednesday.

Despite the three-set win, De Jesus is still looking for better communication from his wards after squandering big leads in the second and third sets.

“May mga situations na biglang hindi makapagadjust. Siguro lack of communication inside the court yun yung nakikita kong isang problema kanina,” he said. “And then pag nagcommit ng errors magkakasunod. Yun pa siguro kailangan maiwasan yung ganoong klase miscommunication inside the court.”

The Lady Spikers had a 5-0 start in the third set only for the Lady Falcons to keep them within striking distance cutting it down to just one, 16-15. La Salle pulled away with a 23-18 cushion before Cheng and Dela Cruz nailed the match-clinching hits.

Nobody scored in double figures for Adamson with Bern Flora and Joy Dacoron having nine points each as they fell to a 0-2 record tied with UE, which it faces on Wednesday.
