Despite La Salle's win, coach still unhappy. Here's why

La Salle turned back Adamson in four sets on Wednesday but La Salle deputy coach Noel Orcullo was far from being satisfied with the team’s performance.

Orcullo cited the team’s lack of leadership on the floor, saying the Lady Spikers acted like strangers in the absence of an orchestrator on the floor.

"Nu'ng first set, talagang sobrang tentative nu'ng galaw nila. Nag-aantayan, walang gustong mag-lead so 'yun 'yung naging resuta,” Orcullo said. 'Pag ganitong walang nag-lelead, talagang nagging pangit 'yung galaw nila. Parang hindi sila magkakakilala sa loob kasi nga walang nag-lelead.”

Orcullo said it’s a good thing the Lady Spikers regained their bearings in the second set and pulled off the victory.

A longtime deputy to multi-titled mentor Ramil de Jesus, Orcullo stressed how important it is for the Lady Spikers to stick to a winning system which Shevana Laput describes as one ‘which has worked for over 20 years.’

“Lagi lang naman naming sinasabi sa kanila na stick to the system at ‘wag tayong mawawala. As long as nandyan ‘yung sistema, gagalaw tayo nang maayos pero kapag tayo umalis doon, (‘di maganda) ‘yung nagiging resulta,” Orcullo said.

Orcullo said the Lady Spikers threw their system out of the window.

“Yun nga yung lagi namin sinasabi sa kanila na wag kayong aalis sa sistema natin. Once na umalis kayo (sa sistema), hindi nagiging maganda iyong resulta,” he lamented.

La Salle continues to miss the services of Angel Canino, still recovering from an undisclosed injury.

Baby Jyne Soreño joined Canino on the injury list after suffering a shoulder injury against Adamson.

As key aces might miss action for an extended period ahead of the Lady Spikers’ Final Four run, Orcullo made one thing clear: “Huwag hanapin ang wala.”

“Kung sino ‘yung nandiyan, maglaro. Kung may mawala, ‘wag nating hanapin basta’t nandyan kayo, naka-lineup kayo. Kailangan kung anuman ‘yung maitutulong niyo, gawin ninyo lahat ng puwede ninyong maitulong sa team,” said Orcullo.
