La Salle’s straight-sets victory over University of the East did not sit well with assistant coach Noel Orcullo who felt that the Lady Spikers did not give their opponents the respect they deserve during their UAAP match on Wednesday.
Orcullo rued the defending champs’ error-plagued start in the first two sets, where most of the team’s 21 unforced errors were made.
Coach rues errors
This, in the longtime La Salle deputy’s view, showed disrespect to the young Lady Warriors side who were dealt their fourth straight loss — and second since the UAAP handed UE head coach Jerry Yee a three-month ban.
“Medyo nakulangan kami kasi nga ‘yung first two sets, hindi naging maganda ‘yung galaw. Mostly, yung iniiscore ng kalaban, puro errors eh. Sabi nga ni coach (Ramil de Jesus), bigyan niyo ng respeto [‘yung UE],” said Orcullo.

“Parang nawala yung respeto nung first two sets kaya nung nag-huddle nung pa-third set, kinausap lang ni coach [yung players] na ‘yun nga, bigyan ng respeto so ayun 'yung naging magandang resulta at naminimize pa ‘yung errors.”
Leading Lady Spiker scorers Angel Canino (17 points) and Shevana Laput (nine points) acknowledged how the Taft side made sure to heed RDJ’s call to close out the match.
“‘Yung mindset lang is kagaya ng sinabi ni Coach (Ramil) na bigyan ‘yung kalaban ng respeto. ‘Yung kanina [versus UE], ginawa ko lang talaga kung anong magagawa ko inside the court,” said Canino.
Laput added: “Like Coach Ramil said, we gotta play with respect. So, when we came into that third set, we really just played it all out. We gave our all and you know, their team responded but then we responded with more power.”
La Salle went on to wrap up the match, 25-21, 25-18, 25-10.
