ATENEO star Bea de Leon will play her fifth and final year with the Lady Eagles in the coming UAAP Season 81 women’s volleyball tournament February next year.
De Leon, who played for Foton in the Philippine Super Liga Invitational Conference, confirmed the news on Thursday after their classification match against University of the Philippines-UAI at The Arena in San Juan.
“Obvious naman, ‘di ba?” said de Leon, referring to recent posts on social media when she was seen playing for the Lady Eagles in a pocket tournament in Ateneo.
It has been three months after Ateneo bowed out of the finals race in Season 80 and volleyball fans, even the media, were waiting for de Leon’s decision.
“Well, siguro after reflecting and really thinking about it, I rarely get this chance to play five years in the UAAP,” she said.
“If I prolong it, it might not be the same. Basically, there's unfinished business for me. As long as there's a chance to reach my goal, I'll go for it,” she added.
Ateneo is looking to end a three-year title drought with de Leon, Maddie Madayag, Kat Tolentino playing their fifth and final year with the Lady Eagles.
